Thank you all for your support and care.... this site helped Rich in his darkest hours .. some place where he knew there were other people who understood and really cared... I know that from those I've talked to ....and that's alot of people through this experience... they are all commited to signing up as donors as a result of Rich's story.... and I don't plan on stopping asking people to go have their drivers licenses changed with that box checked that says ... donor.... We live in this amazing world together and we need each other more than we often realize.... with the deepest of love *kathy

With alot of hard work and pressing our civic leaders to keep pressure on Medicare and Medicaid... they were able to get St. Joseph's Hospital here in Phoenix Certified to do lung transplants and with 2 amazing surgeons with alot of experience from UCLA medical center.. Rich had a Double Lung Transplant on Dec 5, 2009... He is doing really well and was very fortunate that the donor was local and a perfect match .... he's still on a ventilator for now.. but is expected to be off of it soon and his blue fingers he's lived with for years (due to a lack of oxygen ~ he was at 13% capasity before the surgery) are now pink and beautiful... I just thought you'd all like to know!

Rich,

I spoke to McCain's office today to thank them for the great work they are doing pushing Medicare and AHCCCS to do their jobs and get St. Joseph's approved and certified. They were happy for the thank-you's and will continue to keep the pressure on to be sure the certification is completed

I also spoke to Congressmen Jeff Flakes secretary to thank them for helping, she's the one who has been staying on top of your case and asked how you are doing and if you were still in Tucson.. I told her you were going through an evaluation yesterday 10-5-09 and that I didn't know the results yet, but would call Pyra later in the day to find out... It was good to know that Jeff Flakes team really knew who you were and were on top of some of the details about your life... they too have been keeping the pressure on Medicare to get things done as quickly as possible!

Just thought you'd like to know!
