Hello Everyone-

I had my liver transplant  5 months ago and it's been a roller coaster ride.  The lliver is working great so I can't complain.  It's all the other things that occurred - gaining 70 lbs. of fluid; a leak in one of the connectors to the new liver; tubes to redirect bile due to leak; fluid around my right lung resulting in having 2 chest tubes (their removal was traumatically painful); discovery of an aortic anyurism (lucky to catch and fix it now).  Spent more time in the hospital than at home.  Then I got scared.  Liver still doing well, but will all these other things do me in!

I finally was able to talk frankly, not only to help me cope with getting out of this depression, but allowing me to heal quicker. You can't underestimate the power of family, friends, and support staff at the hospital.

I still have a long way to go with recovery.  As I read some of your blogs I realize that we all have stories but there is comfort knowing I'm not alone in this journey.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Bobbiejo for sharing your story.  I'm glad that it all worked out.  It was very helpful to hear that someone else who had to have return visits to the hospital endured and regained her llife.  It's very scary when you have to return to the hospital and your stays extend from a few days to weeks or months.

Thanks again for the encouragement.            sue

Congratulations to you for making it so far! I remember the first year being the hardest for me. I had to be in the ICU for several months after my transplant surgery and the regular hospital several more months afterward. It was a struggle, but one that has definitely proved worth it as I am approaching closer and closer to my six year anniversary of my multivisceral transplant. It is hard to believe so much time has already passed, but I am all the more grateful. I agree with you heartily that the support of others has been and continues to be of great help in making it through each day and in wanting to do so, and I enjoy it so much more because of them too. Recovery can take awhile as this is a major surgery and change, but you can be sure that you will always be able to find support here. Plus,l ife is full of its own pleasures and joys to help one along if one looks and the transplant can make them all painted anew in different colors, and I hope you may find many of these in your own. May your recovery become easier with time, and may new reasons for smiles and hope brighten each of your days. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Many hugs and best of wishes.

Sue,

(((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))      2  U

Do  not  lose  faith  things  will  get  better.

Post  TX   (kidney  and  pancreas) I  was  getting  a bit  discouraged  myself.   I  was  inpatient  for  a  month.     Incision  was  stubborn  didn't  want  to heal.     It  finally  healed  at  4 months.        Two  weeks  after  it  healed     it  burst opened  with  puss,    I  had  MRSA.

Back  to  surgery  to  clean   MRSA  out.      Another  two  months  to  heal.         Then  due  to  all  the  strong  antibiotics  to  treat  MRSA  and  trauma  from  two  surgeries,   my  hair  started  falling out.

But,  hey    I  finally  came  to  terms  that  it  would   pass  soon.        I'm  10 months  out  and   feeling  better.

You hang in  there,  and  take  it  easy!!!
