Mom suffering from Cirrhosis
My mom is in end stage liver failure, she is swollen, anemic, groggy, very tired, confused unable to walk or urinate on her own. I am told she needs to get a transplant and in the interimshe is on meds to flush her system and vitamins. My questions is what do we do next, what should i ask, look out for and do?

I am so sorry your mother is going through such a rough time. I agree with the suggestions of everyone else. I also think it is important to keep good communication between you and her doctors so that you and they can work out what might be best for her at every step along the way. I know that when I was ill and my liver was failing (for me, due to sensitivity to TPN, my only source of nutrition as my digestive tract was deteriorating), it helped just to know that my parents and sister where there for me and were willing to listen. Just their presence was often a blessing. I will be sure to keep both you and your mother in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you may be able to get her through the process as smoothly as possible so that she can get listed soon and that she will not have to wait long afterward. Many hugs for you both.

Help your Mom do what she has to do to get on the waiting list. Keep calling to make appts as soon as possible and keep on it until she is listed. Ask in the meantime what they may be able to do to alleviate some of the most pressing problems until aa liver is available. I will pray for her. God Bless both of you.

I had exactly the same problems (I had PBC) as your Mom except I could walk and urinate w/o a problem. I had a transplant 7 mos ago and am 100% better. The first step is to go thru the process of being tested so you can get listed and then wait for the call.marjory
