About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 18 months of age. I wasn't hospitalized for a tune-up until I was 12 years old. After that I was hospitalized 2-3 times a year. When I was 14 years old I had a Nissan Fundoplication/Wrap. Tube feed put in to help me gain and maintain the much needed weight. In June of 1998 I was finally listed at CHLA for a double lung transplant. 11 months later at the age of 16 1/2 I recieved the call and got my new lungs. Since my transplant I have developed diabetes, high blood pressure, Valley Fever {Cocci} & kidney disease. I've had one bout of rejection that was mild and treated with 10 days of high doses of Prednisone. May 27th 2010 will be my 11 year post transplant anniversary.
I am now 11yrs 7 4 months post dble lung tx & am now needing a kidney tx due to kisney disease. Many years of anti-rejection meds have caused damage to my kidney's. I am going to start the testing for a kidney tx & my husband is going to be tested to see if we are a match. If so, he will donate a kidney to me.
Please Help Us Reach Other Members by Telling Us How You Found Transplant Cafe:
I heard about it from a great tx recipient friend. She is also on Cystic-L support group, Myspace and Facebook.

Well today is sunday Oct. 10th 2010. Chris is home today, but had to go to work yesterday & put in a full day becasue he was gone 3 days this past week. He got off around lunch time on tuesday because it was raining & there was nothing else for him to do. Wednesday morning we got up, got our stuff and headed out the door to drive down to LA. Chris' car wouldn't start. The battery was dead. So he called Jimmy at work & so he came and… Continue

My 11 year Post Double Lung Transplant Annviersary!

Posted on May 27, 2010 at 11:49pm 2 Comments

Last year on this date I wrote this blog. I am very grateful to be here today and to be able to live my life each day as if it were my last. This past year has been a rough one for me. Id say, it's probably been the roughest so far. I am going to fight on to live another day. Recently I was told that the immunosupressant medications I have been taking to keep me alive are now causing really bad kidney damage. In the real near future I will be talking with my kidney dr and talking to him…

10 years ago today on May 27th 1999 I had my double lung transplant due to Cystic Fibrosis. I was 16 1/2 years old at the time & at the end of my Junior year of high school. Now I am 26 years old and happilly married to the love of my life Christopher. Honestly I never thought I would make it/live this long or even be here 10 years later. It doesn't even seem like it's been 10 years already. It kind of feels like it was just yesterday. Over the years I have been through a lot, as does… Continue

Got lots of new stuff to get used to until I am able to have my kidney transplant. Was trying to avoid dialysis all together, but that just wasn't to be. So many years on anti-rejection medications for my double lung transplant 11 1/2 years ago has damaged my kidney's. I am now waiting til my heart heals enough after my heart attack on Nov. 1st to be cleared by the cardiologist to be listed for a kidney. As well as the acute-rejection and pseudomonas to be cleared up. Then I will officially be listed for transplant. As soon as i am listed my husband will finish his testing to be a living donor.
