- I have Polycystic Kidney Disease and my birth father died two years ago from heart problems and while waiting for his 2nd transplant. My grandmother received her kidney from my aunt and is doing great. I have been a transplant weirdo. I was grateful to get my new kidney but went into immediate Acute Antibody Rejection. Have been going through treatments to keep the new kidney since. I developed the rare kidney transplant virus called the BK Virus and so they have been successful in treating it too. My situation is very UNUSUAL so don't worry. I was only the 7th case in my Houston hospital for my type of rejection issues and the 4th with my BK VIrus issues.
But be careful thanks to our wonderful hurricane Ike I developed Invasive Aspergillosis and it took my lung from me in June 2009. It is found in mold and dust and with weakened immune systems, it took ahold of mine and had it's way. I am looking for a community to talk to where other transplant patients are and how they cope and get advice. My transplant has been a long journey and interesting experience, unlike the majority of transplant patients, but I will too get through this.
