Post transplant depression!

I honestly don't know of anyone who hasn't suffered from post TX depression! I think it's one of the side effects the docs (mostly) don't tell you about. I also haven't heard of anyone being denied a…

About being turned down for jobs, I think I'd ask point blank if it's because you're a TXer. You should be able to tell by the facial expressions whether or not they're telling the truth. As for the…

Paying it foreward

In the chat room I met a woman who, w/her husband, both TX, have a really good way of paying it foreward. When they have to go for hospital visits, they go to the ICU & talk to those who are waiting. How neat is that? Then I got to thinking, after my TX I used to bake giant heart healthy muffins for the staff & those in what we call "Step down", basically a recovery & waiting floor. Recovery from the latest pre- admit bout of whatever our organ problem hit us with. The waiting was

Fingernails

I know this will sound vain, but, it really isn't. It's a real problem & painful. After 20+years on cardio meds & now almost 9 yrs. on immuno's. my fingernail are totally trashed. They split, peel, crack &, generally, won't grow. I've been wearing acrylics, because the real ones were getting scary looking. Over Christmas I broke 1 & it cut the skin. In order for the cut to heal, the acrylics had to be removed. Now, the real ones are sooooo short, putting the fakes back on isn't a… Continue

Survivors guilt

Please don't send me to another site. I just want to know if anyone else has this! I'm almost 9 years out, from my heart transplant & am at a point where I can barely function. I do know it is in part because my Mom & Sister died at early ages, but, from cancer. I actually inherited my Familial Cardiomyopathy from my Dad, who died when he was 69, so, that's not where this is coming from. I am s quite simply very tired & feel as though I've outlived my alloted lifespan. Does that make… Continue

Hi Paula:
I guess I wasn't clear. Aids is and was the issue...that's what I mean about the fresh marks. I had cancer (still have a 30 - 50% chance of return) so it was pretty important to get a liver soon. But if my donor (who had a few more issues - thus extended criteria) had had fresh needle marks I would have totally passed.

It actually is 18 weeks before an all-clear can be called for AIDS, and my donor had had a girlfriend who had been an IV user, so we still had to cross our fingers through that time - it wound up OK, though...

I know what you mean, I've never read so many labels in my life! Now I'm not only reading to count calories & total fat but checking everything I buy for sodium. Geez I never knew there was so much sodium! I'm going to look into these water purifiers, I'll let you know what I end up getting. Hugs to you XXX OOO

Thanks Paula, I thought our water was pretty good myself. ha I will definitely get a filter to cut down on sodium though, it is hard enough trying to eat a low sodium diet w/out having to worry about it being in my drinking water!

I know how you feel Paula. Husbands, family. caretakers, have it hardest I think. They want to help, but their hands are tied. Which is a helpless feeling. Let Michael play as much golf as he needs to. It seems to be therapeutic for him. We have no control over some things, which is aggravating. But we must put it in God's capable hands. He has a plan for all of us, so give the burden to Him . That's what he wants. To have trust and faith in Him. In little ways, try to let that trickle down to Michael. Go with God, go with grace. So much love and big bear hugs to you both. Lili

Paula, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It might help to talk to one of your doctor's nicer, better educated nurses, to calm your fears and reassure you. If one comes to mind, call her. If she is a sweetie, she will be glad to answer questions and help you along. Some
nurses forget that this is part of their job, or they forget why they are there, or are just burnt out. But most are empathetic and are caring. Hugs and prayers. Hari sends prayers as well.
