Yes, I agree -- call them any time at their Transplant number and you should get an answer. I too go to the UW in Madison and I have had to do this. I was put on Lasix to help reduce some swelling that I was experiencing -- it does help. GOOD LUCK!…

This group is for all people involved with kidney transplants. Please discuss how you are involved... donor, recipient, family member? What caused the renal failure that led to transplant. What medicines do you take? Do you experience side effects?

About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about yourself and your unique experience with transplantation:
I was very fortunate to receive both a pancreas/kidney transplant 18 months ago. Alll went beautifully and I was released to my home 8 days later with all labs perfect. Returned to work p/t at our local City Hall and all was going well.
One month ago, out of the blue my Amylase and Liapase began to rise, as a biopsy should slight signs of pancreas rejection, so now I am back on the heavy doses of meds (like starting all over again).,Been a little "bump" in the road after all was going so well.
Things are improving, but very slowly and have taken some frequent hospital vists with IV meds to get the levels lowered.
I would like to hear from other transplant patients who have dealt with this kind of problem and their
feed back.
Please help us reach other members by telling us how you found Transplant Cafe:
I was looking for information on Prograf levels and saw this and it was something I definitely wanted to be involved with. To share experiences and hear from others with transplants.
What is your relationship status?
Married

BRUISING/SKIN?

Haven't seen any discussion on skin issues. I have many, many brown spots
(all sizes) on hands, arms and legs, Of course my skin does tear, bleed and bruise
very easily which I know is from the predinsone for one -- very thin skin. Sometimes I barley hit anything and I hleed and bleed. I have many big spots when I don't even hit or scrap them. Does anyone else experience
this? My arms look really bad as do my legs. Transplant coordinator says this is
normal from the pred. Just wondering about any answers and helps.
Thanks -- would appreciate any replies.

Hiyas Nancy!
Yes UW rOCks huh:) Well how is your Pancreas doing now? How much Pred did they have to bump you up? Yes rejection is a drag but that R word they can deal with and thank God they did with and caught it before it was to late :) Yes we were blessed to have UW and a great Drs.~RN's~NA's etc. I wouldn't go anywhere else. We have 'and stayed with' in Knoxville Iowa.
Wow 6 is young~~~I was 12 '1971' the barbaric days in the Diabetes field. So between us we have 2 kinda sos so eyes ~~ eh? "hey nancy watch that curb! crash! boom bam! ouch! grrrrrrrrrr lol" yes the lasers were tough huh? At least we can see a little and I am thankful:) like I have said to a lot of People "better to grow a crooked garden than none at all" amen God is soooooooo good:) My circulation is good but I do have the thin skin and bloches~~gotta watch the sun ya know? How is your heart doing now? I did PD dialysis from 1988-90 for 2 years then I was transplanted in 1990...so thank God no more Dialysis since '90.

Well Nancy and I moved to Oklahoma from N Calif 3 years ago~~~Nancy was a letter carrier for the US Post Office for 2o years thenhe retired in july of 06~~~I dis landscape maintenence part time since 1978. We had a few rental properties in n Calif and now we have a few in Ok so that keeps us active. I do get disability for my eyes 'legally blind ststus' since 1987.
We do get flu shots but what is UW saying about us getting H1N1 flu shots?

Well I will let you pick up where we have left off Ok :)
Have a great weekend and God bless you real good~~~~Tracy

Nancy hello,
I don't know why Candie wasn't informed about a kidney & pancreas tx? You know some Drs.to this day haven’t even heard of a pancreas tx? Is that weird or what? Also maybe her health won't allow it?~but they should have explained that to her. Another thing to is that a lot of transplant centers might not do kidney/pancreas tx's so who knows why she wasn't informed and given options. When we moved to Oklahoma 3 years ago we went to OU (Oklahoma Univ) for my tx care and I went once and it was a joke (for me) as they didn't even have a tx coordinator~~the Dr. (a young doc~fellow) changed all my meds at the same time (of course i didn't change anything) and when I got home from the appt I called the head Dr. there and he didn't return my call for 1 month!!! So when I talked with the Dr. about this I said there is no way I can been seen by you guys because I have way to much invested in this kidney&pancreas. So then UCSF (univ calif san fran-my original tx center) told me about Barnes Jewish hospital St Louis and I was seen there~~~they were great!!! But when it came time for another possible kidney/pancreas tx one of the surgeons at Barnes said maybe I should check out UW (univ Wisconsin) as they do a lot of kidney/pancreas’s and have a great transplant center On my 1st k/p tx (1990) my surgeon (Julie Melzer) went to UW in '89 and learned the kid/panc technique. So doing ‘research’ on transplant stuff is so very important..nancy and I were very impressed with UW and we have been to Top 10 Transplant centers~~~we wouldn't go anywhere else for any of my medical needs:) it's a blessing to have such a great transplant center.

I have 3 tx....a kidney/pancreas at UCSF in 2/17/90 another (nancy's kidney) in 8/6/92 at UCSF and the latest at UW 8/4/09
Yes a lot of things are the same but a lot of things are differn't 'better' as the NG tube & calth come out in 2 days instead of weeks! They really have it down now~~they don;t zap you with a massive amount of Prednisone like fefore. I did really well and I had a great Dr. in charge of me who did my surgery 'Dr. Janet Bellingham' and the R.N's were all great! and the N.A's were all great! I have a great post kidney/pancreas coordinator too 'Nancy Radke'.....My surgery went perfect and no complications~~~recovery was the same...up and walking the 2nd day~~out in 10 days~~so it was a great experience:)thanking Jesus for that:)

Yes my eyes are bad too...left eye finger count...right eye 20/50 on a good day after 20 hrs of lasers in '84&85 to save what they could of mt sight then

I had a real bad case of gastroparesis from 1987 to 1992 but my fiest pancreas to that completely away!!!:) yes amen thank you Jesus again!:)!

I got Diabetes (type 1 ) March of 1971 when I was 12 and what a God send the Kidney & Pancreas have been and I am 'we' are so thankful to be able to have that option again!

So now its your turn to tell me about you OK? :)

ps Oh I have more to share lol but I took up all the transplant cafe typing space LOL

Hugs, Tracy

Hi Nancy! Thank you for your message! I have been doing very well since my kidney/pancreas transplant almost 2 months ago. I saw that you had slight rejection of your pancreas. How have you been doing since that "bump" in the road?
