About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about yourself and your unique experience with transplantation:
I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis at 12 years old (July of 93) after a life threatening staph-pneumonia in both lungs. I was placed on the transplant list for a double-lung transplant the same month. I waited over 3 years for my new lungs before going inactive on the list. After staying healthy enough to remain unlisted for 13 or 14 years, my health eventually declined and I was re-listed for transplant on July 29th, 08. I spent almost 11 months this time before receiving my gift of life on June 21, (father's day) '09. Over the last 17 years and especially the last 18 months, I've met tons of transplant recipients and patients waiting on the list. And been fortunate to have forged wonderful friendships with some of them. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Ex-Vivo Transplants : The Future of Lung Transplantation

Hey Everyone!

This is a one time blog post, my regular blog is on my page. But anyway, I just wanted to tell you about something I learned about the other night at support group meeting.

Dr. Thomas Egan, the lung transplant surgeon that started the UNC Hospitals Lung Transplant program, spoke at the support group this past Wednesday. He gave a presentation on the research that he is involved in surrounding Ex-Vivo transplantation. Which, basically, is transplanting lungs from Non Heart Beating… Continue

Hey Meghann, How have you been? Wow, so U got your transplant hey? That's great, hows it been doing? Well , i am back on the waiting list myself.... Kidney rejected durting the fall and although i have not started dialysis yet, i am taking tons of meds and not eating very much 'cause i want to avoid dialysis if i can. I am offically on the list again, and luckily i have 2 sisters who have volunteered to donate so i am just waiting on the trnansplant center to figure out what they are going to do. I'm not feeling too badly other than frequent nasuea & do get to run once or twice a week. Also been busy following the NO Saints, 1 more game and they are in the superbowl for the first time ever, i have all my fingers and toes crossed right now! :)
Well let me know how you have been?

Meghann,
Prayers do get answered! Congratulations on your transplant. I hope you continue to do well. I know another lady who received a double-lung transplant and actually participated in track and field at the U.S. Transplant Games. Months before that she could hardly walk! Anyway, good luck and think wonderful thoughts every day. God has plans for you!
