Hip Replacement Surgery?

Hi all!!  I've been a little down lately based upon my recent appointment with my osteopath who I go to monthly for a tune-up for my left hip.  Long story short is that the Prednisone knocked out the development of my left hip since I had my first transplant when I was 6-years-old and so my left leg is shorter than my right leg and I have arthritis and loads of other chronic pain problems with the left hip and lower back. When I was 11-years-old, I was on crutches and when wheelchair-bound from…See More

About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
I am a two-time kidney transplant recipient. I was born with agenesis of the kidneys and had my first kidney transplant when I was 6 and my second one when I was 12. It is now 15 years since my second transplant. For both transplants, the donors were deceased and words cannot possibly even begin to encapsulate how grateful I am to them. Growing up with chronic kidney failure and also hip dysplasia that worsened from the prednisone (I now suffer from severe arthritis of my back and hip) had made me appreciate and love life and living even more. At the time I had my second kidney transplant, I was on an emotional roller coaster from high as a kite happy to depressed when I suffered a kidney rejection to high as a kite happy again when I recovered from the kidney rejection. What made it all the more challenging were the hormones and feeling so different, abnormal, and out of place during middle school/high school. However, it has been my life's mission since my second kidney transplant to pay it forward and give back to the transplant community. I was a National Kidney Foundation TransAction Council Member from 2006-2008 and am involved and volunteer as much as I can for my local Westchester County Transplant Support Organization chapter, National Kidney Foundation, and New York Organ Donor Network. I constantly write to politicians about legislative issues that affect transplant candidiates and recipients and tell my own personal story when I can and to whomever will listen to me. Most recently, I wrote a book called "Confessions of a Kidney Transplant Recipient," which chronicles my health experiences since I was a child and how it greatly affected my social networks and my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I look to publish it someday as well as continue to advocate on behalf of the organ transplant community. I've been so blessed and now consider myself extremely lucky to go through all of this at a young age because it makes me see the beauty in life and people all that and more.

"Confessions of a Kidney Transplant Recipient"

Posted on August 27, 2010 at 2:31pm 0 Comments

As a two-time kidney transplant recipient, it is my mission to educate the public on organ and tissue donation and increase the dismal registration rate in the U.S. and especially in New York state where I live. I was born with chronic kidney failure and had my first kidney transplant when I was six and my second kidney transplant when I was twelve. It has now been going 15 years and I wrote a book in 2006, launched it in 2009, and now it is my goal to publish it as a traditional book. My… Continue
