About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about yourself and your unique experience with transplantation:
I was born with cardiomyopathy and wasn't supposed to make it out of the hospital. But i went through all 13 years of school completely fine with no symptoms. My freshman year of college I gained what i thought was just like fat or something but it was fluid and i was in complete heart failure. My EF was down to 30% and i needed a defibulator in May 08. I spent most of the summer in and out of the hospital. By this time my EF was down to around 10%. I spent my 19th Birthday there in august woo! jk... lol My defibulator went off 4 days after I came home from the hospital and recieved my heart 5 days later on the 3rd. I did very well until my first biopsy when my valve was damaged. like what a freak accident!! and i had to get that replaced on the 30th of september. Then I recieved a pacemaker on October 10th or so. I actually went to a halloween party when i returned home which i did get the ok from my doctors to go! It has been very blessed for my health. I am soon to be attending school and have a part time job.

My dad was also waiting for a liver transplant at Jefferson and passed away in December, we both started to show symptoms of our different illnesses the beginning of 08. Unfortunately he didn't receive the transplant in time. It has been a very tough year but he got to see me healthy after my transplant and I know that is what he would have wanted, though I miss him more then anything in the world.

Hi Mary,
Just wanted to check in with you and see how you're doing in school. You had written to me about attending school in Delaware to study photography. I recently returned from a trip to Israel where I shot about 2000 images, from nighttime skyline of Tel Aviv to scenics of the Judean Desert, Masada and the Dead Sea and in the old, walled city of Jerusalem. Then I stayed at the Jersey shore (Brigantine Island, next to Atlantic City) and shot another thousand of butterflies, a neighborhood fox and sunrises, sunsets and birds in flight and those cute little piping plovers that run away from the incoming surf, then dash back as the waves receed to pick what food from the receding water they can collect before the next wave comes in to chase them back again.
Hope you've been well and have been able to concentrate on all the advantages that being away at school affords.
Best wishes,
Neil

Sorry it took me so long to add you. I don't sign on much I just read the posts so I didn't know I had a request. Hope you are doing well. Your dad is rejoicing in heaven at your newfound health.

Hi Mary C.

thank u for your comment about allomap. I learned a little about allomap this past October and wondered how I could sign up and avoid biopsies:) but I am enrolled in a local study here in Canada that seems to be working towards the same thing. I have a lot to learn too.

So sorry to hear about your dad's passing. u r right that it is the best that he was able to see u get a new heart and recover. My mom passed in 2004 and my life has and will never be the same. I am grateful though that she never saw me get sick.

u take care and I look forward to getting to know u. Carol

Happy to share what I can with you regarding my photography. I've been shooting for over 50 years and just took my first course, nature macrophotography last semester. I have since taken the adjunct professor out on a photo safari to shoot Boat House Row in Philadelphia. Used mid and late afternoon, dusk and night lighting. My motto is have camera, will travel and last month I was hired to shoot computer touch screens at 8 locations in and around Philadelphia for the company selling them. Great venues, often recognizable to other restauranteurs who will see the product and be more prone to give their sales people time to make a pitch to them. That was fun. Last week I spent hours shooting faucets for a plumbing contractor who has started importing from China. Not as much fun and very difficult lighting. Everything polished showed reflections. It took about 8 hours to photograph 10 faucets to the client's satisfaction.
Very sorry for your loss of your father. I am a liver tx recipient. June will be 9 years since surgery.
I see you're in south Jersey. We have a house in Brigantine that our family shares. Perhaps our paths have crossed before.
We'll chat again.
Best wishes,
Neil
