About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about yourself and your unique experience with transplantation:
On December 9th of 1984, I was born with malformed kidneys. Doctors did not expect me to live two weeks past my birthday as an infant. I was baptized at 3 days old, and my parents were allowed to take me home days later, faced with a burden-that I might not make it while at home. Soon days, weeks, and eventually months went by and I had been growing and developing like a normal toddler. Doctors, as well as my parents were shocked that I had made it through just fine. All along, my dad had thought about the interest in organ donation, and brought the subject up with family members, relatives and friends. Even when others were unsure of what good organ donation would do, my dad really thought it would make a difference and really wanted to move forward with his choice. On July 3rd of 1991 at the age of 6, i received a kidney from my dad. The transplant was very successful and I am now a healthy 24 year old woman who loves to paint, draw and work with children. I am very lucky to be alive, but there is never a day that I don't thank God for the life i've been granted or to pray for those still waiting. Forever I am grateful.

Hi Laura, I had a great time. I did the 5K and played basketball where we were 1-1 and I pulled a hamstring in the second game. I was scheduled to do long jump and softball throw but couldn't because of the injury.
But it was quite an event! Opening ceremony was really emotional.
