About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
My friend has a kidny he received via transplant, but his creatinin levels are showing that the kidney is starting to decline. I'm considering being a donor for him, but I want the straight scoop from those who have donated a kidney. Want to know what to expect and any limitations on meds or anthing else others are not telling me. I don't want to be sold on donating, I want real information from donors.

As a Tx recipient the doctors prefer one not take Ibruprophen type meds. As for you the pre-op instruction will be to stay away for them for about 2 weeks prior to you donating.

Hello:
Moderation is the key word. Things like Ibruprofen's and Aspirin is that they will gather in the kidney in everyone who uses them. The doctors prefer Tylenol but once in awhile an Advil or motrin is ok; just drink 8 ounzes of water. Alcohol is no problem and everyone should drink 8 ounces of water after each drink. Hope this helps.

Hi Harry again:
Simply, my husband donated to me and he is on no meds and back to his soccer, bowling, golf, etc. and has no effects from donating at all. He had it done laporscopically and did have some discomfort after surgery but nothing the pain meds couldn't handle. Hope this helps and he said he would do it all again in a heartbeat.
