Three Years Out

April 16th will be Three Year out for me.  Not easy but in truth doing well. Lungs still doing very - very well and the med's - well you know any transplant comes with the med's - - not so fun.  We are getting the boat ready and once again spend the summer aboard.  Stay Safe to all and to all a good night -  oh wait that's a different story.  Stay Safe and Live Each Day and remember if we are what we eat - we should consider eating skinny people.Gary ToulouseSee More

Recipients: In This Space, Feel Free To Write About Those You Are Grateful to for Receiving The Gift Of Life:
I am grateful to my wife who stood by me throughout this journey and my transplant center who never gave up on me or the hope for a donor that would match me. I am very grateful to Tammy, my donor, who saw the value in the giving of organs and became a donor, her gift saved my life. Tammy is the Angel Within Me and I carry her photo with me always. We, my wife and I tell our story as well as Tammy's story when ever we can.
Recipient: What Type of Donor Did You Receive your Gift of Life From?
Deceased Donor
Recipient: In This Space Please Tell The Community About Your Transpant Center, Doctors, Transplant Team, Date of Transplant and Any Other Details You'd Like to Share About Your Experience:
I am sure we all think our transplant center is the best, well mine is. My center is Henry Ford in Detroit Mi. One of the best parts is that 1/3 of the staff is Canadain, which I am as well as having USA citizenship. Very proud to be both and proud of the people, all of them, at Henry Ford. The team and the staff at the center are always ready to support, guide, and pro-active in every way. On April 16th,2010 at 7AM I went under the transplant surgery and 8 hours later I had new lungs. I remained in the center for 5 weeks, not because there was a problem but rather because I was the first in a new protocol for lung transplants. All went very well. I remain under the new protocol which means more testing to see just how I am doing. So far I am the Golden Boy for the Lung Program and doing very, very well.
Which Transplant Medication(s) Do You Take?

If You Are WAITING for a Transplant, Please Feel Free to Tell the Community About Your Experience With the Waiting Process.. To Help Us Get to Know You Better and Understand What You're Going Through:
No longer listed - received my Gift of Life - I waited 15 months on the list before the call came. The Gift Of Life came from Tammy a true Angel.
What Do You Do For a Living? What Are Your Passions, Hobbies, Passtimes, Dreams and Goals for the Future?
My wife and I are just now starting to move forward. Years of being very ill took away most of our joy and our only job was to find a way to stay alive. We did buy a new boat, motor and trailier and have just started fishing again. We loved to travel and will be doing that real soon. New Jeep which is tons of fun and we are looking forward to each and every day. Still making many trips to our transplant center which is not fun but always been great news as to how we are doing. Note I said "we" yes, I got the transplant and changed my life but my wife went through the journey as well and her life has alos been changed. So "We" are doing very well, tons of questions, but doing well.
About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
I had End Stage COPD and was on 10 liters of O2. I was once very active to include Sucba diving, boating, tennis and work. I lost all that and faced a fast down hill journey as the COPD took over my life. Listed for Double Lung transplant I waited 15 months and was ready to give up when the call came. My Gift came from a 19 year old Lady named Tammy who died for no reason except that some one used a gun instead of thinking. April 16, 2010 I received a new start and Tammy lives inside of me.

Dream

My greatest dream, since childhood is to be an author.  Maybe now is the time to do it.  I took several college writing classes and was told to write.  Oh well, life has got in the way, or I have let it do so.  Matters not - I'll give it some thought.

Complaining is stupid. Either act or forget.

Tequila and Salt - -  read it every day..

You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't  like you.
