How Does The Kidney Filter The Body?

According to Yahoo, the kidneys perform their life-sustaining job of filtering and returning to the bloodstream about 200 quarts of fluid every 24 hours. About two quarts are removed from the body in the form of urine, and about 198 quarts are recovered. The urine we excrete has been stored in the bladder for anywhere from 1 to 8 hours. See More

Free Talk: Polycstic Kidney Disease Research Update at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton

September 28, 2014 from 2pm to 4pm
SPEAKER: Dr. Scott Brimble, MD, FRCPCNephrologists are working to understand how to prevent the progression of kidney disease in patients with polycystic kidney disease. Dr. Scott Brimble will discuss potential new therapies for polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and polycystic liver disease. For example, research has shown that a drug (tolvaptan) can dramatically slow the development and progression of PKD in animal models, and another drug (octreotide) can delay the development of both PKD and polycystic liver disease and may be a potential treatment option for people with liver involvement. Dr. Brimble received an MSc. from Brock University and his MD at the University of Toronto. Residency training was completed at McMaster University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and a staff nephrologist at St. Joseph’s. He is also the Divisional Director of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. His clinical interests focus on…See More
