Amanda, I agree with everyone else who has replied....you are doing a fantastic thing by donating a kidney to your co-worker. In the long run, you will do fine. I have been with a single kidney since 1981. Unfortunately, it wasn't due to donating bu…

Thank you for your reply Cathy. I'm so sorry for being so late in replying back to you. What does CD4 stand for? I'm in new territory here when it comes to the kidneys and the tests that are done. This is a whole new angle for me. I'm use to tests/n…

We've learned my daughter's kidneys are only working at 30%. At what point do we have to start worrying about a kidney transplant?

I am the mother of an adult daughter who will soon be 10 years post-double lung transplant on May 27, 2009. My first born son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in 1976 at 3 months of age. He died March 1981 at the age of 5. My daughter, Tara was born Nov. 1982 and was correctly diagnosed of CF at age 18 months. At the age of 15 1/2 she was listed for a double lung transplant and received her lungs 11 months later. I also have a 14 yr old son who does not have CF.

Kidney issues, cellcept dropped

There has been concern off and on with my daughter, Tara's kidneys for some time now. Over the past few months her creatine level was up to 2.4, so she was taken off the anti-fungal for shingles/herpes zostrex, but then she broke out so she had to be put back on it. In between the changes her creatine level had dropped just a bit, but not a lot. It was decided to cut her cellcept dose in have from 500mg to 250mg twice a day, that was a couple of weeks ago. Labs came back with a good amount of lo… Continue

IV now or later for Tara? What to do, what to do....

This week is already one busy planned out week for Tara. Wed. pre-op appt., Thurs. regular labs, chest x-rays, and PFT's, an added CT sinus scan and a bone scan, but not your regular bone density scan...Tara help me out, what's it called? After all these tests in the morning she will have her regular CF/post-tx appt. in the afternoon. I don't think another thing can be added to this day! Friday morning is the out-patient procedure for pre-cervical cancer cell removal. She should be released by n… Continue

Good possibility Tara will be admitted today...I'm sad

Tara & Chris drove to L.A. yesterday, late afternoon to be there for her appt. today. It's an unuplanned appt. which means she's sick. Her appt. at the transplant center isn't until 1:30 but she has to be there by 8:00 a.m. for labs. We think it may be the flu bug. I sure hope not. There has been a virus passed around to everyone in the house, starting with Tara's hubby and brother. She was next, then myself. Tara had it for about a week before I ended up with it. The problem is Tara never c… Continue

May 1, 2009 My daughter's health with transplanted lungs & Valley Fever

It has been a crazy year for my daughter, her fiance (now husband), and my family. We have always been a fairly close family and when things are not going well for one, then it means things are not going well for all. January 2008 Tara and Chris decided it was finally time to get married. They had been seeing each other since Tara was 14 and Chris 16... He came into her life just when it started to get tough. He was there for her first surgery; feeding tube mickey button/fundiplication at 14 1/2… Continue

Cloyce, Hi! Did you ever find out what Tara's GFR was? Just curious. Lili
At 2:31pm on October 6, 2009, Lili Feldman said…
Hi Cloyce. The GFR is glomerular filtration rate. It is the best estimate of kidney function. Google GFR, then go to The National Kidney Foundation. On left side of page you will see CKD. Click that and go to What is GFR. At bottom of page will it will state CKD stages and GFR ratings. If your doctor didn't include this in your daughter's labs, ask him/her to. Many blessings, Lili

Thank you for your note Cloyce. My actual transplant anniversary is 5/13-5/14 (the surgery went through the nite); sadly, Mother's day fell on 5/13 that year. I always think how awful it must have been for my donor's poor mother on that day.

I saw your note about Tara. I had a weird bug too this week. Not really the flu or a cold-just enough to be annoying. Hope Tara is OK.
