L-lysine for Shingles?

I have had Shingles for 3 1/2 weeks now. I was given an anti-virus med within 72 hours and have taken amitryptiline for the pain at night after taking Vicodin for the heavy pain. It isn't really working now for the tingling pain I have left in spots, so I am switching to gabapentin. Friends are telling me that they have used L-lysine with good results. The primary care doctor told me it would be fine to take.Have any of you taken L-lysine with success and with approval from kidney transplant…See More

Deceased Donor
Recipient: In This Space Please Tell The Community About Your Transpant Center, Doctors, Transplant Team, Date of Transplant and Any Other Details You'd Like to Share About Your Experience:
I have the best transplant team at OHSU and my nephrology doctor, Dr. Julie Tank, is fantastic. I had my transplant in Jan. 2001 and am still going strong.
Which Transplant Medication(s) Do You Take?
Prednisone, Prograf, and Azathioprine (this one has been changed several times trying to find one with less side effects for me)
What Do You Do For a Living? What Are Your Passions, Hobbies, Passtimes, Dreams and Goals for the Future?
I am passionate about homeschooling and was able to finish schooling my youngest after my transplant. I love traveling, especially cruising and we have been able to do that quite a bit since the transplant also.
I love being able to watch my grandchildren grow and spending time with them.
I want to be able to travel to Ireland and Scotland in the future & spend lots of time at the beach with my family.
About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
I was blessed in that I was only on the transplant list for 6 months. Dialysis was not working well for me and so this was a real answer to prayer. :-)
My kidney has worked strong since the operating table and I have not had a lot of problems.
I am faithful about taking my meds on time every time. I set alarms and family members remind me also. I think that is one of the keys to my transplant doing so well. The other key is that even though I received a cadaver kidney, it was as good as a sibling match.
I feel like I have really been blessed.
