Our daughter, Andrea Clegg, received her heart transplant on Dec. 21, 2010 after being on the LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) for 14 months. We were thrilled with our "best ever Christmas Gift"! Please see Andrea's blog at "stayingtruetomyheart.blogspot.com" for info. She will be on Global TV Toronto in Jan or Feb. The entire surgery was filmed by them!

The staff at Toronto General was excellent in their care of Andrea during her LVAD and heart transplant surgeries, including before and after. There are wonderful teams of knowledgeable, supportive, caring people who we felt very comfortable with, even when Andrea was so deathly ill! Thank you Toronto General!!
Which Transplant Medication(s) Do You Take?
Many of these questions I will let Andrea describe when she is feeling up to it!
About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
Andrea has had 1 1/2 years of ups and downs since she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Her defib/pacemaker (she named Ivan) was implanted Oct 2008, her LVAD (mechanical heart) (named Vito) in Oct. 2009, and just four days before Xmas 2010, she had her heart transplant!! Yeah!!! I am her proud Mom!!

Hello Carol,

Just wanted to drop by and say "Welcome", so happy you decided to join our group. Congratulations on your daughters heart tx...what a wonderful Christmas indeed. You will find the people here to be very kind and willing to share their experiences as well as information they have learned on this journey. I encourage you to join a few groups (there is a heart tx as well as a caretaker group), read discussions, make comments or start a discussion of your own.  Wishing you and your daughter all the best and hoping she has a quick recovery.

Sue

Here we go again....and again!

So I had my first liver tx in 2005 (living donor) and had bile duct issues. I had a 2nd tx March 16th and have bile duct problems yet again and now I'm faced with needing a 3rd tx. Has anyone out there had 3 transplants? I've been stuck in hospital since March and the doctors want to send me home...even though I still require IV antibiotics and a VACC system. My family and I are quite nervous.
