About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about you and your unique experience with transplantation:
When I was 14 years old, I was diagnosed with Wegeners Granulomatosis, an autoimmune disease. I relapsed 3 times and was treated with high doses of cytoxan and prednisone. When I was 28 (6 months after I had gotten married), my kidneys started to fail. Medication was unsuccesful in treating this. After a trip to the to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, we were told I needed to return home to be put on the transplant list. I was devastated, to say the laeast. On november 26,2008, my younger sister Erin donated her right kidney, which we lovingly refer to as "LC" (Lauren Contrad from "the Hills" ... a bit of an obsession for me) to me. I jus tcelebrated my "re-birthday" a copule months ago. I hI. returned to work as a full-time middle school guidance counselor in August. Physically my body is doing well and my kidney , LC, seems to enjoy her new home in my body. Unfortunately, I am having a VERY difficult time dealing with the emotional aftermath of all that has happened. There are no support gropus that I have found in Milwaukee. I would love to communicate with out kidney transplant recipient, especially "younger" ones who may have similar experiences to me. I know I was given a "2nd chance at life," but still grieve the loss of my old self. I want to appreciate all that I havfe but need help and support dealingwith what has all happened and what that means for my future.

Entertainment: What is Your Favorite Type of Music, Bands, Movies, Art, Books, etc.?
I love reality TV - it's my escape from my own life. As corney as it sounds, "The Hills" is a show that I feel especially pulled me through everything. I named my new kidney "LC," after Lauren Conrad who had been the star of the show.
I love all kinds of music, but am especially fond of country :) I love reading; my favorite authors are Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green. I also love my celebrity gossip and keep up with it via Us Weekly magazines. I am trying to find "self-help" books that can hep me deal with everyting as well.
I love movies!! Romantic comedieies are my favorite, but I also like suspense and drama - anything ... though I'm not a fan of the Twlight saga :)

Welcome aboard! I had a liver transplant last July and sympathize with the way you feel. It's strange to have endured what we all have. There is no way someone who hasn't experienced this kind of re-birth could understand what takes place in our head(s). I'm not certain I will ever be able to explain it to myself. Still, it beats what could have happened. Now, we have another chance. Stay well. **David**
