FYI. . . Liver Transplant Recipients needed for AMD (eye) Study

Posted on May 1, 2009 at 10:03am 5 Comments

Reseachers at the University of Iowa are conducting studies to assess patients who have previously received a liver transplant and have clinically documented age-related macular degeneration (AMD). If you have both of these conditions (liver transplant and AMD) and you are interested in learning more about how you might be able to participate in this research study, please contact Dr. Greg Hageman or his assistant Sheri McCormick by telephone (319-384-9722), email (sheri-mccormick@uiowa.edu) or… Continue

LifeSharers: www.lifesharers.com/ Your valued opinion wanted; please share your "respectful" thoughts

I would like to start a discussion on the pros and cons of LifeShares, http://www.lifesharers.org.To me it makes sense because if you ever need an organ then you should be willing to choose to become a donor before and if it were to ever happen, God forbid.

This was, however, not my case because I was not educated about donations and never thought that I would need a transplant. That was over 10 years ago and I believe the public has become well educated as to the need for donation… Continue

Hi Ann, Sorry to bother you but I was hoping you could enlighten me on a question I have. I know you have taken great care of yourself after your liver tx but are now having problems with your kidney. I am not on prograf but am on cyclosporine. I can switch back to Rapamune if I want. Do you think long term use of cyclosporine can cause kidney damage? I don't know which of the evils are the best in the long run.

Hi Ann, I called and left you a msg but I wanted to share something I saw tonight on the cbs news (evening). If you go to cbsnews.com and click on evening news and then click on The American Spirit page, there is a story of How a ceo of a software co. started a chain list for kidney transplants from the National Kidney Registration. They are doing the largest live kidney transplant exchange in Texas on Thurs. that will save 28 lives. Very interesting. They will match people who just want to be a part of living donors to people in need of kidneys. Let me know what you think. LifeSource is here in the Midwest, not sure if they have one down south.
