I got westnile from my heart donor which is like polio. The doctors had me on prednisone which causes muscle deterioration. It worked against me cause i needed to build muscle. After a year I got off of it and now I am making progress and walking with a cane.

Funny you say that paul I have omeprozole 20 mg supposed to take it once a day I notice alot of acid coming up, I don't take it do you think this is why I am having these pains? should I take it? I had stomach craps and muscle spasms, Fluid retention hasn't been a problem here unless I am eating lots and lots of salt

Lawrence, I've been having severe abdominal pains on and off for a good few years now - when I think about it to be honest it has been since my transplant.

My Transplant Dr prescribed me Omeprozole, 40mg in the morning (it helps with acid problems). If my memory stands me correct it is caused by the immunosuppressants irritating the lining of the stomach, it can also irritate the stomach muscles causing severe stomach cramps, hence I have been admitted to hospital on numerous occasions with these issues.

I currently take 5mg alternate days (I am struggling BIG time with my weight and I know it is due to being on the Pred for so long).

I make sure my diet consists of three regular healthy meals and I include plenty of fibre. So far this has been keeping my abdoman fairly pain free. For how long I cannot say.

I am losing the weight, slowly but painfully surely. I got as heavy as 20st, now I weigh in at 16st 8lbs. I have to be extremely careful with the amount I drink due to the severity of my fluid retention (I have to weigh myself daily!).

Prednisone makes you want to eat sugar so be careful I control myself I am now 2yrs out and I am 6'0 145lbs I am skinny but I always had trouble gaining weight so these meds not really affecting me in the aspect of gaining weight. Sleeping is tough though sometimes I take anti- depressent for that and my stomach kills me in the morning I think its one of my meds

I was recently diagnosed with low bone density with a DEXA scan - I am 50 years old and 7 months post liver tx. The physician feels that this may in part be caused from the high doses of Prednisone post tx. I have since been allowed to discontinue the Prednisone; actually just a couple of days ago (WOO! Hoo!) and they have added Actonel - I take it once a week to treat the pre-osteoporosis. Hope this is helpful - Teresa ;o) Oh, I am also to taking the Actonel for a year and thenam to repeat the scan.

Hi all,
Yes, prednisone sucks..I'm pre-liver transplant and I've been on prednisone for a couple of years. I'm down to 10mg a day...I've gained about 30lbs...and feel like crap most of the time. But I also take Azathioprine, Ursodiol, Fosamax, xtra Calcium & Vitamin D, Nadolol, and a mutivitamin....so I have a plethera of side effects...joy, joy.....

I am going on 11 years on 5mg of Pred daily and I do get the shakes a lot, but I can never tell which medicine is giving me which side effects...so, I just deal with them all.
