LAURA, I HAVE ONLY BEEN TX ONCE LIVER AT DUKE UNIV MED CNTR...I DO HAVE A FRIEND THERE NOW.....AWAITING HER SECOND LIVER...WELL, ACTUALLY HER 3RD....1ST WAS FROM HER BROTHER....DIDNT KICK IN AND SHE WAS SPIRILING DOWNHILL....SO JUST A FEW DAYS FOLLOWING LIVE DONOR SHE WAS TX AGAIN WITH WHOLE CADAVER LIVER.......SHE HAS PBC PRIMARY BILLIARY CIRRHOSIS....AND IT CAME BACK ONTO THIS LIVER WITH A VENGANCE, SO SHE HAD MULTI PROBS, INCLUDING KIDNEYS.....SO A NEW LIVER ISHER OPTION....SHE IS AT DUKE UNIV HOSP NOW WAITING....I WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW THIS ONE COMPARES FOR HER WITH HER PREVIOUS TRANSPLANT.........WISH I COULD HELP YOU MORE....MY THINKING IS THAT "EACH" TRANSPLANT IS DIFFERENT IN DIFFERENT WAYS WHETHER ON THE SAME PERSON OR NOT.....I LIVE IN WESTERN MTNS OF NC ABOUT 5 1/2 HRS FROM DUKE......WE ENJOYING SOME NOW RIGHT NOW.......HANG TUFF......WE'RE ALL BLESSED.....YOU'LL BE FINE ....JUST RELAX AND LEAVE IT TO THE DOCS .....SYLVIA EDWARDS

Hi Joe, Thank you for all your info. I met with my surgeon today and he told me that he wanted to hold off on re-transplantation right now. He wants to wait and see how my PTC tubes are doing (more waiting..bah lol). He said I am obviously getting a mix of information and from here on in I am to only listen to him, my hepatologist or the head of radiology....take what any other doctors I see while in ER/hosp. with a grain of salt.
He is presenting my case and will mail me what the outcome of the meeting is.
I am glad to hear that you are doing well and hope you continue to do great.

If I am given the option of transplantation or an attempt at bile duct surgery, I will be opting for tx.

Hi Laura. I hope you are doing well. I wanted to let you know that I did have 2 transplants with the first (04/18/07) being a live donor from my brother and then the second transplant coming 3 1/2 weeks later (05/14/07). For me they just had to remove my existing staples. Although I don't know for certain I suspect that they would follow your existing scar. Due to complications, not to mention that the first transplant just didn"t work, my second transplant was much easier then the first. I understand the anxiety but I'm sure you will be fine.
I know I probably didn't ease your fear of the unknown but I wanted you to know that you I will be thinking of you. Good luck with everything.

Hi everyone.
I hope all of you are well. I have questions for anyone who has gone through two or more transplants that may seem dumb or trivial. I had a living donor tx on June 2005 but, due to bile duct complications, I am being relisted.
My question are
#1 Did the surgeons go over your existing scar?
#2 Do you think the recovery (pain etc.) was the same or easier than your first tx?
Having gone through a tx already I am pretty familiar with the process but I can't help being a little anxious/scared. Dealing with getting a deceased donors liver and their family (I will most likely write them a thank you letter) will bring a new set of issues. I guess I am just wondering about the "unknown".

thanks betsy, i do remember reading about prograf. one of the side effects is [constant hunger]. hopefully that will subside eventually

it's the same with me Bobbie. I'm also about a year and a half out. I'm hoping my weight will level off sometime soon.
