This is a group for all people who have had liver transplants. Feel free to say how long you have been a recipient and what medication you are on. Some doctors hope to have their patients off all medications, any thoughts?

Comment by Stu L on June 19, 2012 at 7:59pm Susan G prayers are with you and Gazz for a speedy transplant,. the hep will return in time but they will only treat if it starts to damage the new liver. I was almost two years post transplant and viral load in the millions. they started treatment only after a biopsy showed I was stage 2/3, I responded to the traditional treatment and my Enzymes are in normal range.. I am still on traditional but Columbia has been treating post transplant patients with the new treatments with great success. BTW I did not respond pre transplant so you can never tell.
Get the transplant first it's enough to deal with.

Comment by Penny on June 19, 2012 at 4:36pm That's great that he has been listed. I hope he gets a transplant soon!

Comment by Connie Austin on June 19, 2012 at 9:04am I had a liver transplant in Oct. '11 and have been told it will be about a year before they will treat me for Hep C (using the 3-drug treatment.) FDA approved or not, it is definitely being used in post-transplant patients. I've had a number of problems post transplant, including a leg ulcer that is being treated 3 x a week by Home Health nurses and has not yet healed. So the other day, a vascular doctor stated the other day that it would be about a year before I can get treated for the hep C. My impression is that they want you to be healthy, with good labs that are stable, before putting a patient on treatment.

You have totally lightened my load today with that news. Don't worry about the treatment right now. Post transplant has its own set of hurdles for the first 6 mons to a year. If he's anything like me the last thing he'll want to deal with is getting wiped out by new treatments after he's stable.
Believe me...he'll feel so much better he'll pray the new liver outlives him.
Penn has been using the triple in cases of really sick patients, but only treats PT patients if they're really sick.
My prayers are still with y'all.
