Too many people ignore the close inter-relation between kidney diseases and diabetes or hypertension. Worldwide, 246 million people suffer from diabetes and the figure is expected to reach 380 million by 2025. Diabetic nephropathy affects a third of people suffering from diabetes. Sadly, less than half people diagnosed with diabetes undergo a screening test.
Next Word Kidney Day will be held on Thursday 11 March 2010 and will focus on Diabetes, the leading cause of kidney failure.

World Kidney Day offers a crucial, visible opportunity to inform and educate health policy-makers, people who are at highest risk of CKD, and the general public that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable.

Join our World Kidney Day 2010 group and come to exchange your experience and ideas that could be proposed to World Kidney Day organisers over the world.

The success of World Kidney Day across the world is only possible because of each of you!

Hi everyone.....am both donor family and recipient...so first of all, I cannot express enough gratitude, love and thankfulness to those of you who made that decision to donate...you all are so selfless and courageous. I received my liver in 2003, but prior to that in 1999 I'd lost my awesome brother to a brain tumor. As he'd been on some pretty harsh chemo, it was corneas, etc. that were donated. It was such a blessing for our family to receive the thank you letters from those whose sight had been restored. What a miraculous thing transplantation is. I'm DOUBLY blessed to be both a donor family and even more so, a recipient. If I could only open a "window" to show each of you who gave the gift of life....so you could see just how far reaching your gift extends....my family, my friends, co-workers, and most of all, my very young daughter who still has her mom because of wonderful, awesome people like you! Thank you!!! You're a gift beyond measure......you're priceless, absolutely priceless! With eternal love and hugs....Lisa

Hi Donor families. Just stopping by the group to say hello. I am expecting that soon we'll have many new members in the site and more donor families join this group.

Thank you all for the Gift of Life!

I am a donor mom. My daughter Sharday was only17 years old when she lost life in a car accident the day before Thanksgiving 2003. Her passing was instant, making organ donation impossible. Sharday was a tissue, skin, bone and heart value donor. Her gifts of life ultimately helping 48 people across the country from a 6 year old boy to a 65 year old woman. In the 4 1/2 years since her passing I have been blessed to work with LifeAlaska our state Tissue & Organ Donation organzation group volunteering in numerous ways. I will continue to share Sharday's story of unconditional love as well as tissue & organ donantion every chance I get.

My son was born with a cardiomyopathy and had a heart transplant at age 15. He passed away about a year and a half ago at 23. We were able to pass on the gift by donating his corneas.
