Has anyone had problems getting travel insurance after a organ transplant. I seem to going the way of a medical underwriting process to see if I can get coverage. The cost could be high , but will know in the near future. What have your experience's /restriction been ?

Happy to comment.
I had my transplant in 2001 and started to travel in 2003. A few companies gave me a hard time but I found one which insured me (Nepal, Thailand, France, USA) without a hassle or outrageous fees...until my last trip when they changed their policy and refused me.
I am planning a trip to Mexico and my travel agent checked with his company and as long as I have been stable for 3 months I am covered under their regular package.
Two companies I have contacted recently that will insure people with organ transplants without needing medical documentation are:
1. Travel Secure - 416-636-3575 - Martin Firestone seems to own the agency.
His daughter Alana dealt with me and after a few questions put me in category 4 charging $70 for 11 days
2. Travel Star - 1-866-796-9467. I spoke to a rep who gave me information and put me in the standard rating of $54 for 11 days, . $250 deductible. ($59 for $0 deductable)
You have to apply online. http://www.gms.ca/

I have not used either of these so am not recommending them...but both were easy to deal with.

Thanks for the information. I just did some imvestigation on the GMS site and the policy talk's about organ transplant being covered after one year and no changes in your condition (180 days) prior to travel. I think this will be one I will follow up on after my one year is up (may 02/10).

I know that most policies are not for existing pre conditions. You also need to be stable and without med change for 3 months. Check the fine print when you select your insurance policy and company. Go to others and compare it is worth the effort. I became sick in the states with my policy which i was entitled to and was turned down twice for a life saving pace maker. Funny thing, i had never required this before so it wasn't a history for me but a new problem and they would not give it to me. The Doctors in the states kept insisting and corresponding stating that i had no options i needed it, as my pulse was stuck at 20. Scary. Finally, with much correspondence from my Ontario Doctors, back and forth, and also much needed political help from Ontario, i did gain this required life saving pace maker, which i was in policy for. My following trip, after i was stable, and okayed by my Doctors again, i dealt with a new company, and all i hope should be fine if i ever require help again. I wish we were all under the same umbrella with the same health care system and our relationship was easier to travel across the border with our health needs. I do hope the States proceeds for national health care for every citizen, what a blessing that would be once it may be figured out and in place one day.

All the best within your search for a reliable company, don't just pick the cheapest, get the best policy, it may be worth it if you require help. Have a great vacation.
