Strength training is a great way to build muscle. I wouldn't worry so much about extra protein intake as you probably get enough from your diet and too much can be damaging to your kidneys. I was able to gain muscle from consistent strength training and I didn't change my diet. I am also on prednisone which makes is harder to gain muscle. The key is consisitency. I would recommend hiring a personal trainer (with education AND certification) to show you proper form and technique. If you have been taking prednisone there is a chance your bones are weaker so it's important to make sure you are weight lifting correctly.

I am very greatful don't get me wrong... Is it possible to get healthy and lose weight on all these meds? I have been a 1B rejection for a while so I am still a high doses of my meds. Anyone else have these issues and saw a light soon after??? HELP ME.. THANKS KELLI

Lawrence, be careful of the whey protein. My docs told me too much can affect your kidneys... so ask your docs b4 you try anything new like that.

I am not underweight anymore....i've been able to gain weight now that I can;t run as much. I'm even starting to notice a little belly that wasnt there before. I miss running...I try to run 3 days a week, a mile at a time but even that causes me to hurt like I dont know what. I know running is supposed to make you sore but dont think its supposed to inflict actual pain...marathon training excluded in that I think...you run 20 + miles, your going to be in pain.

I've got the hair. Pretty used to it- use a razor for removal. But I had my first pedicure and that was divine. Toes waxed and everything. I struggle more with normal problems from aging and working. I am at the right weight but flabby. Because I have been inactive I don't want to move. Inertia. I am really thankful I have no real issues with self-image. And I just need to get back to swimming- today!

I also struggle with issues concerning being underweight. I think some people in my family still think I have the anorexia nervosa I had for about a year more than a decade and a half ago and that I am trying to kill myself. Fortunately, my immediately family understands and is supportive. I would love to gain as I find it difficult sometimes to look at myself in the mirror and see myself so thin. I do sometimes find thoughts from the anorexia popping up but I have so many more positive and rational thoughts to deal with them. I have even had people I do not know ask me if I am anorexic which can hurt, but I know that I am trying to do the best I can to gain. I still struggle with accepting my body being thin (sometimes feeling self-conscious around others, especially those I do not know), but I am trying every day, and hope to be able to gain soon. I really wish I could be helpful and take some of the weight others would like to lose. I agree that there seems to be less awareness about people who struggle with being underweight as the focus is almost on losing weight. If only we could help balance each other out. Best of wishes.
