The past 2 years I have been having long episodes of CMV.  It requires using Valcyclovier ($1,800 for 30 pills).  I just got off a couple of weeks ago and CMV is back once again.  I looked it up and here is the link that explains the difficulties with tx recipients.http://www.uptodate.com/contents/cytomegalovirus-infection-in-renal...   Are any of you going through this too?      I am still painting and trying to carry on, but end up sick like flu with this.   Jdui

It has been a long time since I have been active.  On January 11, 2012 our house caught on fire (from the ground wire outside making contact) and burnt the whole end off of our home.  we have a log home, so it had burnt a while before I knew it and called the fire department and got out.  We were out of our home for 5 months while they rebuilt and refurbished.  What a terrible mess.  This of course, caused some health issues with me.  I have suffered with some problems and not felt well.  The house is done, studio is back together and I think I am on my way back.  Hopefully I will be posting some new art.  I do know that we are just more fragile than we know.  Hard to live out of a motel because of special eating needs.  Hope you are all well....   God bless!

Hello everyone,  Hope you are all doing well.  It has been a busy time.  It seems it is hard to keep up with all the work, painting and groups.  My husband travels a ot and when he is home I get NOTHING done!  We just spend our time together.  I teach painting a few days a week and that is good.  It keeps me inspired and moving.  Just wanted to say hey!!  Judi

I thought I would share what I have been inspired to make after my liver transplant. my husband wore and held my personal rosary the whole week I was in a coma and during my transplant. A rosary was with me during my month of recovery in the hospital and our son's three months in the hospital. The first rosary I ever made was for our son that was buried with him. After that I have just kept making them and their creation has been a healing comfort to me.

Ah William, Here is a little poem:

Any medium will do the part,
Art is created from the heart.

Thanks Sharon for the hints. I think the problem for me with toxicity in oils wasn't from the oil as much as from the solvents. I stopped using turpentine but never found a suitable, non-toxic replacement. Then I started doing a lot of traveling and watercolors just made more sense. Someday, when I have a studio again I will return to oils.

Judi:
I didn't mean that I think acrylics look bad. I have seen some painting, though not many, where I couldn't tell if they were acrylic or oils so I thought there may be some medium to help get that wonderful rich feelings that I've only been able to create with oils.

What I see before me, looking at your paintings reproduced, is pixels on a screen. Pixels do not equal pigment.

Your work has an upbeat happiness to them which translates no matter what the medium. That you enjoy what you do comes shining through.

Like you, I've painted for many years and am grateful to have had some wonderful teachers along the way.
I've only taught kids which gives me great joy. Their freedom is an inspiration.

This is a still life that I taught on my Facebook group Raccoon Ridge Artists as well as the farm scene and the white rose. They are all done with acrylics.

Hi, I was an oil painter for over 30 years and was forced to quit when I had many problems with my transplant. My doctors were concerned that the reason I was not getting well was from the toxins. I switched to acrylics. I don't find them to look bad at all. Maybe you are trying to put them on too heavy (like many oils). If you look at many of my works that I have posted, you will see that they do not look any different than my oils did. I use a "workable fixative" while I am painting, a gloss medium with the paint when I do certain subjects including portraits, then varnish with either a matte or satin varnish usually. I will post a couple newer paintings that I have done recently and see what you think. Thanks, Judi
