TransplantCafe.com - The Gift of eLife!

Hello all!

Well the new year started out a little rough, Tracy slipped on the ice and broke her arm. With several triathlons planned this year including a half ironman in June we would not let this set us back we must keep training were we can. Having a professional triathlete as a swim coach sure helped.

The first triathlon was the Ice breakers in April. Wearing the new designed Donate Life triathlon jersey,Tracy took it to a 4th place finish in a very large womens field. It had to be the new jersey.GAME ON!

If you want to go faster you have to get one of these jersey's!

OK off to rock n river 1/2 marathon on May 3rd. With heavy rain and 13.1 miles to run, Tracy managed to come under the finish time she wanted and placed 8th in her age group that consisted of about 100 women. Not being able to wear the jersey due to the weather must of slowed her down.

This weekend we are off to the Aflac Iron girl triathlon in las Vegas. I will report when we return.

Tell us how your traning and sporting events are going.

Hi Tracy, my training is almost non-existent. I've had a lot of problems the past 8 months, long story short it was all med related and it basically killed anything I had going at the games and I am having to start all over but thats ok. I am healthy and I found out my liver isnt in rejection like they thought so I am thankful for that. I don't have any races planed yet. I just want to take it easy. I've been running as much as I can when I feel ok. Right now I can run 2 miles, slowely but I'll get it all back eventually.

Hi Peach and Bill et al..
So, just so you know the post is not me writing in third person. My husband, Glen, (my "coach") posted this blog unbeknownst to me. He is such a tremendous support to me in my athletic endeavors. He truly pushes me to do the best that I can. The triathlons have been great and with the new jersey that Glen designed we definitely hope to continue to raise awareness for the need and success of organ donation.
Peach, I will keep you in my prayers.
Bill, I know you also had some health setbacks, how are you feeling?
My best to you all
Tracy

I hope the jersey gives me the same luck :) My track workouts start tonight. I met with my coach last Monday and he thinks I can break 6 in the 1500m. I find that hilarious :)

Sorry, Tracy! I was going to email you.. I wasn't sure if it was too big.. it is a touch big around the arms (my massive boobs), but I like it that way. It looks GREAT! Love it!

LOL!! You crack me up. I have the same problem, those big babies just get in the way of everything don't they haha! I'm so glad you like the jersey. I hope it attracts a lot of attention. Are you getting excited for OZ? See you soon! T

I am 7 years post transplant and am just starting to become the athlete I was before I got sick. The idea of doing a Triathlon really sounds exciting. Is there one for Donate Life? As you can see I'm not very informed but want to be. Good luck with your training!

Hi Suzanne,
Congratulations on 7 years!! As far as I know there is no official Donate Life triathlon, but it is a fabulous idea, indeed. I started with sprint distance triathlon at Donner Lake a few years ago and was hooked. My husband, Glen, designed the cool jerseys (on the TC main page) and I wear it to all of my events. We call ourselves team "Donate Life" and welcome anyone to join. Glen always tells the announcer about my story while I am on the course and they are very good about sharing it when I cross the finish line. Someone always approaches me either because of the jersey or the announcement. It provides an awesome opportunity to share the need and success of organ donation. I see you are from Pleasanton. That is just around the corner (in a global kind of way :o). I have family and many transplant friends in that area. Are you involved with the Transplant Games? If not, I would encourage you to reach out to Cathy Olmo at the CTDN. You will be blessed. I would suggest you start with a sprint distance when you are ready. There is one at Donner Lake in July and another one at Pyramid Lake in August. I plan to participate in both of these. Google them and if you are interested, let me know. It would be awesome if you wanted to join me! Please feel free to email me at glen-n-tracy@charter.net if you want more info or to chat. I'd be happy to share my number. Take care. Tracy
