My transplant team talked to me yesterday about switching my meds (currently Prograf, Cellcept and 2 mg Prednisone) to Rapamune. Has anyone made that switch?
Also, is anyone on Rapamune only with no other anti-rejection drugs?
Thanks,
Laura

Permalink Reply by Terri Lynne on October 16, 2012 at 8:53pm I took Cyclosporine for 19 years and was switched to Prograf 4 days shy of my 20th anniversary. I was scared at first letting them do that but it turned out to be the best thing for me. For three years my liver numbers had been high and being switched seems to have fixed that.
Sorry, never been on Rapamune or Cellcept so can't say anything about that but good luck!

I am a kidney transplant and I know Rapamune is normally used with other drugs which is why I asked. My TX center is recommending rapamune alone. I am 7 yrs post TX.

Permalink Reply by Burnie Schultz on October 16, 2012 at 10:37pm I was a Liver TX and was on 3mgs Prograf for 17+ yrs and just this May was switched off it to 1000mgs of Cellcept of which I could not handle. After 3 months I switched to 720mgs of Myfortic which I seem to be handling very well. The reason for the switch off Prograf was it was killing my kidney's [seems to be very toxic to them]. I still do take 0.5mg of Prograf twice a day along w/ Myfortic and 5mgs of Prednisone. Prograf is the silver bullet to stop rejection but it does attack the kindney's over time. That my be why they want to get you off it. My last blood test my GFR was 35 Creat was 2.01 after 17+ yrs of Prograf use.--Burnie
