Hi folks, I had my tx 9 weeks ago and everythings going really very well. My creatinine is down to 97, not sure the equivalent measurement in the US/Canada. I'm feeling very well, loads of energy, truly delighted to be feeling so well. My main problem has been the discipline of remembering to take the drugs at the appropriate times. I was late twice so far and thanks to advise from people on this site, took them shortly afterwards and no problem, but.. last night I went to bed earlier than usual and forgot to take my tabs alltogether!. I was up at 6.30 and upon realizing what I had done, decided to take them then (I usually take them at 10am and pm) and perhaps a little earlier in the evening at maybe 8pm then back to normal after that, I'm embarrassed at my own stupidity and having rung my transplant nurse already am reluctant to own up to being so dumb again soo soon. an anyone there put my mind at rest?

My second worry is that recently I asked my doctor how good my transplant match was, not having the common sense to ask before now. He told me it wasent a particularly good match but that it was an exellent kidney from a young donor( to whom I am eternally grateful). I have just read in a transplant brochure that if the match is not very close the chances of the transplant lasting a long time are significantly reduced, that depressed me, especially after forgetting to take my tabs last night too.

Sorry to be bothering people but I'm a bit worried and would be grateful for any advice. thanks.

We probably have different medication regiments, but my doctor said that a few hours or one day shouldn't hurt. Still, I am pretty spot-on with my meds.

I'm not sure what you doctor means by not having a good match. I'm O+, but they were going to give me my wife's AB- with little difference in long term prognosis before the matching deceased kidney came available. Staying healthy and keeping close to your transplant team seem to be very key.

All the best of good health to you.

Bob

Thanks Bob, will talk it thru with my doc next week when we meet, probably paranoid about the match but just v protective of this wonderful gift, no other way of describing it. Stay well.

I have a clock radio in kitchen [or were ever you have drugs]. It has settings for 2 different alarms. I have them set for 9am and 9pm. It will buzz [annoys you] for 1 hour before it turns it's self off until next cycle. Been working for me for 17 years as long as i am home at the time...lol. ............ As far as missing a dose I do a judgement call. If only a few hours late i take them then and adj the next dose by 12 hours minus 1/2 the missed time until I am on schedule again .If closer to next dose I wait and take then.-- Burnie Liver TX 2/95 UCSF SF CA

Just the idea I was searching for, i'll get a clock radio, this is all a serious learning curve...but a pleasure to be in this position. Thanks Burnie. Hugh

I use my cellphone alarm in case I am out when it is time to take my meds.

thanks Debbie, I'll do that too, its a learning curve!
