I have recovered from my kidney transplant 2 and a half years ago and I have been checking into getting LIFE insurance and I keep getting turned down. I wonder if I am wasting my time or have I just not found the right company yet?

Has anyone had any luck getting life insurance after a successful transplant?

I think you need to be 5 years out before they will cover you. I can't remember exactly the number but you can ask. They will cover you eventually......
I have been told never by two agents.  I had a liver transplant in 2007.
My husband had his first liver transplant in 1988 (23 years ago) he has never been approved for any insurance that he didn't have prior to his transplant....and he cannot increase his coverage  on the policy he has.

Since  a  TX  is  not  a  cure, but     simply  a treatment  .........  We  will never  be  eligible  for  Life  insurance.

They  won't  even  cover  somebody  with  High  B/P,  let  alone us. :(

From what I understand you will never be able to get life insurance post transplant. If you have any insurance before you're transplanted never let it lapse because it will not be renewed.
Well for Kidney TX it is a yes, I had life insurance.  I worked for a large law firm and I had life insurance.  I am over 15 years out though.  I know I couldn't be covered the first few years though.  I think the key is to work for a large corporation.  I don't know about other organs but I would keep checking around because I know you can.  Not sure if different states are different.  I live in NC .

Yes thats a good idea. I am looking for a job now, so that will be something I will consider. I was thinking of insurance independant of employment too, but I will try once I make it to the 5 year mark as you suggested. Thanks.

Well, I had two kidney transplants and it's a NO for me.  Actually, I had insurance prior to even knowing I was sick, it was a policy my Dad held for me ever since I was little.  He kept on paying on it for me even after I turned 18, however, when I got married, I went to turn it over in to my name and increase the coverage.  Not a chance.  Told me no, and they will never increase it.  It's sort of a little joke between my husband and me now....I know he will never 'off' me for my life insurance money, LoL.

I am almost 15 years S/P liver tx, and they wont touch me, rejection after rejection and if you do find one that accepts you it is so costyly , better to set up afund and make monthly deposits to your own fund( savings-cd, etc).why give your hard earned dollars to a ripp off company.

good luck you find anything that accepts us, please let me know. I should of sued afquack when i was told i was declined because i was a combat disabled veteran.....

I was offered coverage through prudential at about 7 years out from transplant ($300 a month or so for 250k). I also have a work policy that I have kept in force, but was pre transplant.

I would take that deal. Maybe a little less coverage to save money. So I will wait a few year and try again or try to get a job that has life insurance as a benefit. Thanks everyone for the info. I hope it helps someone else too.

A  couple  yrs  ago    I got  a  insurance offer  from   CSAA  (or  AAA,  the  car,  home  and  life  insurance).

I  thought  I'd  give it  a  shot,  since nobody  else  would  take  me.

I  sent  in the  preliminary  questinaire.

I  received  a letter  saying  that  based  on my  medical  condition   (Diabetes)  they  could  NOT   take  me  at  that  time.

So,  I  KNOW   that  the  second  they  see  TRANSPLANT  they  will toss  my  app  in the   trash.   :(
