Important Facts & Tips About the Transplant Cafe Chat Room:

You are NOT being ignored!
The chat room also acts as a "who's online" prompter. It will show all members who are signed into the site, but not necessarily the chat room. So, if you greet someone and they don't reply, you're not being ignored - It just means that the person is doing something else on the site.

Conduct:
As with any other area of the site, you agree to carry yourself in a respectful manner toward others and yourself when using the chat room. Entering the chat room
The chat room is a persistent bar across the bottom of any page on Transplant Cafe. To enter the room, login to your account and click the bar where it reads "TransplantCafe.com - The Gift of eLife!" (number of members online):"

 

This opens the chat room:

Sending your message in the chat room
To send your message, type your text in the text box then hit the enter key on your keyboard:

Private chat messaging or "pm'ing"
To have a private chat, or "PM" with someone you're already chatting with, click on their picture inside the chat room then click on "private chat." This sends that person an invitation to go into the private chat room with you which they can either accept or turn down:

In the illustration below, "arrow 1" shows the private chat tab showing you the new private room you just opened to the right of "main" which is the main chat where all members are. "Arrow 2" indicates where you'll click to close the private chat and return to the main chat room (point your mouse in the upper right corner of the tab for the "tab close button" to appear):



Minimizing the chat room
To minimize the chat room click the top bar of the chat where it reads "TransplantCafe.com - The Gift of eLife!:" (doing this only minimizes the chat room, but does not log you off out of it. to log off and not be visible in the chat room, see the last step below at the bottom of the page)

You can pop out the chat room to make it "portable!"
You can make the chat room pop out and detach from Transplant Cafe by clicking on the pop out arrow:

 

The chat room pops out and creates a new window on your desktop:



And now, you can take the chat room with you if you need to navigate away from Transplant Cafe:


 

To log off the chat room and the online indicator and stay logged on to Transplant Cafe, click the person icon at the top of the chat room. You can also add smiley faces and hear a chime prompt each time someone else enters a comment by clicking on the speaker icon:
