I have been concerned due to fluid buildup in the past few weeks.  Did labs today and Vanderbilt said they have to have that info first.  But I'm concerned because my stomach is hard and I look pregnant like before the transplant.  Any ideas anybody?  Thx, Kelly

Hi Kelly,

I am sorry, I don't know anything about liver Tx I have had 2 kidneys txs..... but I had both of mine at Vanderbilt and I can say that they are one of the best places to be.  I moved to Raleigh, NC and now go to Duke.  I am happy here too.  Trust your TX team, call and talk to your docs.  Your doc should talk to you over the phone so you don't have to come in.  Just call . They have invested a lot in you and they are there for you.

Good Luck!

Andrea

Thx so much!  You take care and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Kelly

I have not experienced fluid build up to any degree,  I had a liver transplant in 2007.  I do sometimes retain fluid if I do not watch my sodium intake, but my stomach does not get hard.  Sounds like you have already called your transplant team and have gotten labs.  I think you are on the right track.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks so much, they just called and upped my prednisone from 2.5 mg to 10 mg daily.

They are going to call back about the fluids, but my white count is 2.6 and plateletts are 34, so as usual, it's not very good.

thanks a bunch to all and take care,

Kelly

Well, they finally called back and as said before changed my prednisone from 2.5 mg to 10 mg daily.

When asked about the fluids, they blew me off saying they had no explanation and to wait till May 18 for checkup or go to GP.

Oh well, I tried.  It's very frustrating.

Thanks to all who have responded trying to help out.

Kelly

My Acute Liver Failure was the result of Hepatitis C contracted during an emergency C-section in1978!

I lived with stage 4 (end stage) liver disease for 15 years. The fall of 2010 was the beginning of a rapid decline. I received a transplant in May of 2011. As you know a transplant gives you a new life but does not cure the hepatitis C, it begins its damage of your new liver immediately. Thanks to the incredible staff of the Mayo Clinic Liver Department and new drugs Solvaldi and Olysio I have been virus free for over 5 months and hope that my 6 month blood test will be still be negative. Interferon and ribovarin would show no virus and then a month or so it would rear it's ugly head. I had no side effects from the two new drugs. These drugs are very very expensive but I was fortunate that Mayo knew where to go for help with these two drugs whose combined costs is $58,000 per month for 3 months. $174,000.
