New to The Cafe? Here Are Some Things You Can do to Get Started!

After you have answered the optional registration survey questions and you have read the Terms of Use, there are many things you can do:

-
Start with this video tutorial:

Customize your "My Page" page! This is your personal space on the Cafe. Here you tell the community and the world who you are and where you get to share more about yourself.

At the very least, you should replace the default ribbon "add a photo" photo for one of your own.

IS YOUR PROFILE PHOTO GETTING CUT OFF AT THE TOP?
If your profile photo was cut off at the top when you uploaded it to your page, this is a common problem that can easily be fixed. For info on how to resize the image to fit the frame properly, click here to visit this discussion forum.

Add an "About Me" area in your profile page!
Click on the "Edit" button in the box at the top and make it an "About Me" section where you can talk about your experience even more, or add any other transplant related details that will allow the community to get to know you better. You can also keep your own blog from here and read the comments that other members leave you in your Comment Wall. Any blog posts you write are displayed along with the other 5 most recent posts on the home page.

Some members get very creative and also changed their page's appearance. You can do this by clicking on the "Edit Page Appearance" link at the top.

-Explore the Groups: There are various groups that have been set up by other members. Some of them are regional, some of them are thematic. You can join as many groups as you want..and you can create new ones if you don't find one that you're looking for. Inside each group, you can communicate with other group members in a more "private" space and hold discussions that are group-specific (these discussions are not displayed on the home page).

-Check out theVideos: You can view videos that others have added and add your own. Here you can embed YouTube and videos embed code form other video distribution services as well as your own videos, from your own computer if you prefer. All videos can be linked to or embedded into your personal blogs or other sites which gives you and your message great exposure to the community and the world. Also, you can view the latest videos posted by other members (and yourself) on the home page!

-Picture anyone? Photos for everybody!: Same as with videos. Photos are displayed on a slide show in the home page, but that's just the tip of the iceberg... There's SO many photos, you can be looking at them all day and not be done. And of course, you can also upload your own and create photo albums for all to see!

- Tell the community you're here!: Click Here to introduce yourself to the community in the "Introductions Forum!"

- About the Discussions Forum: The forum is broken down by categories. In the main Forum page only the most recent discussions are displayed, so if you are looking for more topics about, say, "Transplant Meds," click on the heading for the section and you will see many more threads there. Also, you can search the forums to see if the particular topic you are looking for information on has already been discussed. If not, you can always start your own discussion. The discussions with the most recent comments (and the most recent discussions) are also displayed on the home page.

If all this seems too overwhelming, do not despair...we have a support forum!
Click here to visit the Transplant Cafe support forum where myself or other members of the community will help answer any questions you may have about all of the above, or any technical issues you encounter!

Lastly, Help Grow the Family by Spreading the Word About YOUR New Community!

1.Click Here to Invite others to join the Cafe!: After you have spent some time on the site, why not invite other transplant friends, donors and donor families, doctors and facilitators you may know to join you at the cafe? You can click on the Invite tab to do this.

2. If you like what you see, please link to the site from your blog or other sites you are active in, tell any support groups you belong to as well as tell your transplant coordinator, so they can invite others.

The more members who join the cafe and connect with others, the better!

Again, welcome to the cafe and we wish you great new friendships and a most productive and useful time at Transplant Cafe!

Thanks,

Nelson Freytes

I have several friends who are members. How do I ask them to be listed as friends
Hi JT,
Simply go to each of their pages and click on "add as friend" under their photo. This will send a request to add you which they can accept when they next login to their account.

Nelson,
How do I introduce myself? I clicked and I read what was there but how do I start my own introduction?
Tina,
Click here to go to the introductions forum where you can start a discussion. Hit "start discussion" give it a title like "Hi, I'm Tina.. etc." and then write your intro in the space below and hit save.

I thought the blogs let you add pictures? Its not letting me
Hey Terri. To the right of the add a link button there's a bluish button that looks like a painting. Click that and you will be able to browse your computer for any picture you want to add to a blog post.

None of those icons are showing up on my end
Terri,
After you're logged into your account, you go to your page and hit "my blog," as you know. Then "create or add blog post" at this url: http://www.transplantcafe.com/profiles/blog/new.

The area to add a post should look like this and have the same icons:

Click the icon the that the arrow in the image above is pointing to and you will be able to upload a photo. If you are not seeing these icons, then something else is not right and I have to check it out with the provider.

Let me know if that solves the issue.

I know where its normally at..and It was there before but its not now...none of that is showing up for me
Have you tried a different browser? And have you restarted your computer or do you leave it on most of the time? You may want to try cleaning up your cache and browser files.

Let me know if that does it.

n
Using the same browser...I cleane out the cache and browser files last night....computer was rebooted this morning.
